What's identity?
It is who you are.
Our purpose rest solely on our identity. In our identity is our purpose and destiny.
Question: who are you?
Who you are tells us about your purpose.
Who did God call you? Your name tells about your identity.
Who are you? What's your name?
Coded in who we are is our purpose, what God calls us to do, and what our destiny is.
Jesus refers to himself as the son of man. He uses that to affirm that God is a person.
We can't identify ourselves until we know our source.
God is our source.
Looking at the world around us, we see the intelligence of God in display; showing us that he's our source.
God first existed in the first verse of the bible in the first book. Gen 1.
The first thing to know about God is the attribute of creation.
We can't define identity outside of our source.
The word of God is the coded word for life to reveal our source to us, hereby, revealing our identity.
God is first a creator (maker).
Question: how much of the word do you know?
Scripture is the revelation of God to humanity.
You can't know the source beyond the revelation he gives about himself. You can't know him except he talks to you. He's a person that gives you an answer.
The two faces of God:
- God face
- Father face
John 20:17
[17]Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my *God, and your God.
God as God
When God acts as God, there's nothing you can do to make him act otherwise.
When you ask God questions and he doesn't answer, just wait. This is the God face. This is when he acts as your God and not your father.
Walking with God requires patience. It requires long suffering.
Jesus also encountered this God face. Matthew 27:46
[46]And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, *My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?*
Father is a person you talk to and responds. But God doesn't need to respond to you always.
You can't put pressure on God.
God is not who you call him but who he calls himself.
God as Father
The father nature of God gave birth to us. 1 John 3:1-2
Adam was called the son of God in Luke 3:38
He's a Father who loves. Love gave birth to us. For he is love. 1John 4:8
The motivation that made him create us is love.
Our source is both God and the Father.
The father nature of God speaks to us. He wants us to ask and he wants to give us Matt 7:7-8
The God part is seen from Job's example. God was silent from chapter 2 until he spoke in chapter 38.
Known and the unknown dimensions of God:
The father dimension of God is the part you know while the God dimension is the part unknown.
The way to walk with God is by faith. He works everything for our good.
Trust is essential in walking with God. Even in the unknown dimension of God, he's good.
This foundational knowledge about our source (God) and his different dimensions is essential for the understanding of our identity.
